Frequently Asked Questions
A fillable PDF contains interactive form fields (also called "AcroForm fields") embedded in the document. These are the fields that let you type your name, check boxes, or pick from dropdowns. Many official forms — tax documents, applications, contracts — are distributed as fillable PDFs.
If your PDF is a plain scan or image without form fields, this tool won't be able to help — use the Add Text tool to overlay text on the page instead.
All standard AcroForm field types:
• Text fields — single-line and multi-line
• Checkboxes — toggle on/off
• Radio buttons — pick one from a group
• Dropdowns — combo boxes with a list of options
• Option lists — multi-select list boxes
• Push buttons — displayed but not editable (skipped during saving)
It converts your filled form fields into permanent page content. After flattening, the values look identical but are no longer editable — recipients can't change them, clear them, or copy the form structure. This is the recommended option when submitting contracts, tax forms, or any document where the values must not be modified.
Those are read-only fields — usually auto-calculated fields, embedded signatures, or fields the form author marked as non-editable. You can see them but you cannot change them, because the PDF spec declares them as protected.
If the PDF opens without a password prompt but has "no editing" restrictions, this tool won't be able to save your changes. Please use Unlock PDF first to remove the restrictions, then fill the unlocked copy.
No. Everything — field detection, form filling, and saving — happens in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib. Your file and its contents never leave your device. You can verify this by opening DevTools → Network tab — zero outbound requests beyond the initial page load.
