Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my shapes transparent by default?

Transparent shapes let you see the PDF content underneath — perfect for annotating, highlighting areas, and marking up documents. The default is 50% transparency, which is a good balance between visibility and see-through-ness. Drag the slider to 0% for solid shapes, or up to 100% for fully transparent (only the stroke shows).

Can I change the transparency of a shape I already drew?

Yes. Click the shape to select it, then drag the Transparency slider — the shape updates in real time. You can see the change on the preview instantly.

What does 0% vs 100% transparency mean?

0% transparency = solid shape (fully opaque). 50% transparency = you can see through it halfway. 100% transparency = completely see-through, only the outline/stroke is visible. For most annotation, 30–60% works best.

Do transparency settings apply to both fill and stroke?

Yes — the transparency slider applies to the entire shape (both the fill color and the stroke). If you want a solid outline with a transparent fill, set transparency to ~50% and choose a fill color that looks good at that level.

Will the transparency work in Adobe Acrobat / other PDF readers?

Yes. The transparency is embedded using PDF's native graphics state parameters, which are supported by every modern PDF reader — Adobe Acrobat, Foxit, macOS Preview, Chrome's built-in viewer, and mobile apps.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Everything — preview rendering and shape embedding — happens in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib. Your file never leaves your device.
