Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between "Centered" and "Tiled"?

Centered places one large watermark in the middle of the page — ideal for logos or a single "CONFIDENTIAL" stamp. Tiled repeats the watermark in a grid across the entire page, which is harder to remove and great for security documents.

Can I use an image or logo as a watermark?

Yes. Switch to "Image" mode in the sidebar and upload any PNG, JPG, WEBP, or SVG. PNG with transparent background works best for logos. You can scale it from 5% to 90% of the page width.

Will the watermark be editable in other PDF readers?

Text watermarks are embedded as real, selectable PDF text using standard fonts. Image watermarks are embedded as regular PDF images. Both can be removed by advanced PDF editors, so this is deterrence, not DRM. For permanent protection, flatten or rasterize the PDF after watermarking.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes. Choose "Custom Range" from the "Apply To" dropdown and enter a range like 1-5, 8, 11-13. Leave it on "All Pages" to watermark every page.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The entire process — preview rendering and watermark embedding — happens in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib. Your file never leaves your device.

Do non-Latin scripts work for text watermarks?

Not currently — the tool uses PDF's built-in fonts which only support Latin-1 characters. For Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Cyrillic text you'll need to embed a custom font, which is on our roadmap.
