What Is Schema Markup?
Schema markup (also called structured data) is a standardised vocabulary — created by Google, Bing, Yahoo and Yandex — that lets you tell search engines exactly what your page is about. When Google understands your content, it can show rich results: star ratings in search, FAQ accordions, recipe cards, product prices, event dates and much more.
The vocabulary is defined at schema.org, and the format Google strongly recommends is JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data). This is what our generator produces.
Why schema markup matters
- Higher click-through rate. Rich results visually stand out — pages with star ratings can see 20–30% more clicks.
- Better understanding. Google uses schema to understand the entity, not just the keywords.
- Voice search & AI answers. Structured data is what lets Google Assistant and AI Overviews quote you accurately.
- Eligibility for special features. Recipe cards, event listings, FAQ dropdowns, how-to carousels — all require schema.

How to add schema to your site
- Fill in the form above with your page details.
- Click Copy to copy the generated JSON-LD.
- Paste it inside the
<head>section of your HTML, wrapped in<script type="application/ld+json">...</script>. - Validate with Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema.org validator.
- Wait for Google to re-crawl — rich results typically appear within 1–4 weeks.
Common schema mistakes
- Marking up content that isn't visible. Schema must describe what's actually on the page. Hidden content = manual action.
- Fake reviews or ratings. Google manually penalises self-serving or fabricated reviews — do not markup reviews you didn't collect.
- Using the wrong type. Using
Productfor a service page will not earn product rich results. - Marking up the same content twice. One page, one primary schema — use
@graphto combine. - Forgetting required fields. Each type has required properties (e.g. Product needs
name; HowTo needsstep).
Frequently Asked Questions
What is schema markup?
Schema markup is a vocabulary of tags (based on schema.org) that you add to your HTML to help search engines understand your content. Google uses it to display rich results like star ratings, FAQ dropdowns, recipe cards and product prices.
Should I use JSON-LD or Microdata?
Google strongly recommends JSON-LD. It is easier to implement, easier to maintain, and does not require modifying your visible HTML. It's the format this tool generates.
Does schema markup improve rankings?
Schema markup is not a direct ranking factor, but it enables rich results which significantly increase click-through rate. Higher CTR often correlates with better rankings over time.
Can I use multiple schema types on one page?
Yes. Use a
@graph array to combine multiple types on the same page. Our generator uses @graph so you can add Article, Breadcrumb, Organization and more in a single script tag.How do I test my schema markup?
Use Google's Rich Results Test or the Schema.org validator. Paste your URL or code and the tool will show any errors.
Is this schema markup generator free?
Yes — 100% free, no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is ever uploaded to any server.
