What Is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is placeholder text — meaningless words used by designers and developers to fill space in a layout instead of real content. It's been the printing industry's standard dummy text since the 1500s, when an unknown printer scrambled a passage from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum (written 45 BC) to make a type specimen book.
The scrambled version survived five centuries because it has a nearly normal distribution of letters, making it look like readable English. But it means nothing, so viewers focus on the design instead of getting distracted by the words.

Options explained
- Start with "Lorem ipsum..." (default ON) — opens with the classic phrase "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit." This makes it instantly recognizable as placeholder text. Turn OFF for completely random opening that produces different output every generation.
- Wrap in HTML tags — wraps each paragraph in
<p>…</p>. Turn on when pasting into HTML templates; keep off for Figma, Sketch, Word and other plain-text contexts. - Wrap list items as <li> — when in list mode, wraps each item in

Where Lorem Ipsum came from
The original passage is from De finibus bonorum et malorum, a treatise on the theory of ethics written by Cicero in 45 BC. The Latin text says something like:
"Neque porro quisquam est, qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit…" — "Nor is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain…"
Five centuries ago, a printer scrambled the passage to make specimen type. The garbled version stuck. Today the standard Lorem Ipsum uses the same sentence structures but with rearranged words and altered Latin endings to look like real prose without meaning anything.
